The New Year is fast approaching and in Japan, the new mixed martial arts promotion, Rizin FF, is under way with their 3 day event. Bringing back memories of the old Pride FC days, the events are headlined by MMA legends such as Fedor Emelianenko, Shinya Aoki, and Kazushi Sakuraba. Among the fighters is Korea’s ROAD FC fighter, Soo Chul Kim (김수철).
As a former ONE FC Bantamweight champion, Soo Chul Kim, faced off against Brazil’s Maike Linhares. Kim utilized his relentless clinch-work to wear down his opponent and began scoring takedowns in the later rounds. He also found success maintaining top control and displayed effective ground and pound throughout the fight. With excellent scrambles in the grappling exchanges, the highlight for Kim in this fight was in the third round when he advanced to a full mount position and rained down punches.
Earning a unanimous decision victory, Kim improves his record to 12 – 5 – 1. Aside from fighting to a draw in his last outing, the Korean fighter is now on a 5-fight winning streak. The 24 year old seems to have a bright future in the world of MMA. Let’s be sure to watch out for what Soo Chul Kim does next.
