This is a great video for any Korean mixed martial arts fan. Even if you are not a fan yet, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a great look into how the sport of mixed martial arts developed and how the Korean fighters are making their mark in MMA history.
There are some great interviews with the best MMA coaches in South Korea from Korean Top Team and Team MAD. The video has awesome introductions to the top Korean MMA fighters in the UFC including Dong Hyun Kim, Chan Sung Jung, Dongi Yang, Kyung Ho Kang, Hyun Gyu Lim, and Myung Ho Bae. It really takes a look into how these fighters are paving the way for future Korean and Asian fighters in the world of mixed martial arts.
I think their role as athletes is having an even bigger impact beyond sports. They are breaking negative stereotypes like “Asians are weak.” These men have become athletic role models for current and future generations of Asians around the world. As a Korean-American and Asian-American, there has always been a void in my childhood when it came to having Asian athletic role models. I consider the growth of Korean MMA as a pivotal turning point. It is an opportunity to break the stereotypical image and redefine what an ‘Asian’ is and can be. I hope you enjoyed the video as much as I did, and I hope you join me on this journey as Korean MMA Fan. Not just for sport, but for our future!
